The Flower Field Square

A SistersInStich Mystery CAL

The Story Behind...

Note! If you wish to see any finished part before beginning, please scroll down to the end of its pattern and you can have a little preview to plan your colors and such. But also note that this will spoil the surprise. 😉

The Flower Field Square is a beautifully textured floral overlay crochet square designed in collaboration between two friends sitting on opposite sides of the earth.

Ilse and I begun playing this round of the What Were You Thinking Square Game the second of June 2021, yes you read that correctly. Way back, then we apparently took another break after a few more rounds up til august the same year and ended up having a mega break until we finished it in January 2023. So this has definitely been one of our most long going projects, but oh the fun we had with it.

This square is a match for most of our other What Were You Thinking Squares from the series as it measures 20 x 20 cm when finsihed.

It’s a highly textured that is so much fun to work up and makes a perfect base for such projects as pillows, crossbody bags, blankets and wallhangings.

This pattern will be released as a mystery mini CAL (Crochet ALong) during august in the form go a written pattern with pictures here as well as on our Instagram feeds:

@SistersInStitch @Mycroshed @Crochetedbytess

Part one is out now and when the mini CAL has ended; it will be released as a free pdf download here on SistersInStitch along with a comprehensive video tutorial.

Thank you for joining us on this new squared adventure, it will be so much fun! Both me and Ilse can’t wait to see all beautiful pieces so please share your progress and makes with us all:

Pattern info:

Skill level: Intermediate/Advance

Finished size: 20 cm x 20 cm

You will need: 4 shades of the yarn Must-have by the brand Yarn and Colors, a 3 mm hook, a darning needle, stitch markers and a pair of scissors.

Please note that you can use most types of yarn for this square. We have chosen to use a mercerised cotton as it gives the best texture and stitch definition for this type of square.

Yarn usage: Only a small amount of each colour is needed for this make, less than a skein each. If you are to make several squares and turn them into a bigger project; we suggest that you make one initial square and weigh round by round to calculate correct yarn usage for your project.

Colorways: There are two available for this pattern: Country- and Sunshine field. They are both absolutely gorgeous; one is a classic Ilse wonder with focus on soft rose garden colors, the other a super Tess kind of colorway based off a sunburst of luscious mustards and pinks together with calming creamy tones.

Country field (main colorway)
