The story behind..

It all started a long time ago, after the Butterfly Effect CAL in 2019. We had just finished it and was already busy planning the next one. The idea was a big blanket with all the ten squares I had designed for the Ultimate Granny Square Sourcebook. It then turned into another idea, and after many months it became the two gorgeous designs it is today; a blanket as well as a pillow. I’ll tell you more about it in a Vlog entry during the CAL, promise!

The Island Stroll CAL brings you floral squares that we slowly turn into beautiful octagons and then finally join together. This CAL consists of one main pattern yet brings you two options of makes depending on which yarn you choose to work with. Either you go for the luxuriously luscious blanket in our Super Must-Have, or for the stunningly textured pillow in the Must-Have yarn. No matter which one you end up choosing we will spend eleven wonderful weeks together, embracing the mindfulness that is overlay crochet.

Getting the opportunity to work so closely together with Yarn And Colors again is absolutely fantastic. I’m sending all my love and thanks to their incredible team. And I couldn’t have made it without my two amazing friends and testers: Ilse from @mycroshed and Lina from @krokoklint. The laughs and froggings we have shared together over this time is absolutely precious to my heart.

The Island Stroll CAL 2022 is a gorgeous luxuriously textured blanket and pillow designed by Therese Eghult for SistersInStitch in collaboration with Yarn and Colors. It is divided into 11 parts and runs for as many weeks; starting at the 6th of May and ending on the 15th of July 2022.

We rated the skill level ’intermediate’ but one of our testers had very little experience making granny square and managed to make the pattern anyway. We will guide you through our written pattern with comprehensive video tutorials all the way from start til end.

The free pattern parts and video tutorials will be released every Friday here on SistersInStitch and over at Yarn and Colors. As we only speak English (and Swedish) the pattern are written in US-terms and the tutorials will be shown in those too. In the Island Stroll CAL: Stitch Guide you will find techniques, abbreviation and terminology lists to help you out a long the way, and they are including UK and Swedish shortenings!

And as always, when the CAL is finished; the pattern and tutorials will all stay available here on SistersInStitch so that you can crochet whenever the time is right for you.

The Materials

All you need to partake in the Island Stroll CAL is some yarn that you love to work with, a hook that goes with it, a scissor along with a needle to work away the ends, and lastly some stitch markers too help out when joining. If you are making the pillow you will also need a pillow insert (which is included in our pillow kits).

Together with Yarn And Colors we have put together three absolutely stunning colorways for the Island Stroll blanket and pillow. The designs are inspired by the island fauna and nature so the colorways are named after the three elements to my beloved morning strolls: Saunter in the sunlight, Stroll by the sea and Walk in the woods. I hope you can single down a favourite amongst these, I myself love them all to bits.

The Blanket Kit

The Island Stroll Blanket is designed with Super Must-Have; a 100% mercerised cotton yarn with the same lovely smooth shimmer yet in double the size of the Must-have! Super Must-Have comes in 100 grams balls with 115 meters/125 yards. The finished blanket measures 130×130 cm (160 cm on the diagonal).
